Evan Wilson's love affair with exotic textiles started when he was a young art student studying the Old Masters. Emulating artists such as Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt, and van Dyck, as well as many great Italian masters like Michelangelo and Leonardo, led to Wilson's fascination with the artists' ability to capture the metallic flint of a button, or the intricate detail in the clothes worn by royalty in their portraits. From the very beginning of my career, I have tried to incorporate beautiful textiles of this sort whenever the opportunity arises, says Wilson. In this image, the artist portrays a young girl in a traditional Japanese wedding kimono of beautiful repeating peacock patterns with very intricate embroidery and gold threads in the feathers.
