General Crook was a man who respected by soldier and Indian alike. He had a reputation for keeping his word. When he was sent to the Southwest to "defeat" the Apace, he realized that the only way he could fight the Apache was to use Apache scouts to find their own people. They became his biggest asset. They usually wore a peculiar blend of military and Apache clothing and equipmentÂ…which perhaps suggested the conflict they must have felt between the two cultures. - HT
