Literature has celebrated countless love stories over the course of many centuries: Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, Lancelot and Guinevere—their names immortalized with ink on a page. With the release of Lady and the Tramp in 1955, and the “wet cement” scene in particular, Walt Disney not so subtly suggested the permanence of the love between, not kings and queens, not fearless knights and ladies, but two dogs—their initials drawn, not only into wet cement, but also deep into our hearts and imaginations. Michelle St. Laurent celebrates this historic moment in storytelling in her newest painting, “Our Paws Together,” which works to further preserve the fabled love between Lady and her Tramp for generations to come.
