Malemutes were a tough breed and when working could pull an average of 100 pounds per dog. In 1908, the smaller and faster Siberian dogs were introduced into Alaska and the combination of the two breeds has produced many of the dogs seen today. Although sled dogs may have solid coloring, they more frequently have both dark and light markings such as these two malemutes. - FM
