Summer excitement arrived with the first concert on the green. The harbor town bandstand could be seen and the music heard all over the village square. The townspeople, all decked out in their Sunday best, gathered together to clap their hands, tap their feet and sing their favorite melodies. The horse and carriage drivers always liked to hear the sounds while they rested in the shade of the tall, leafy trees. It was an absolute pleasure to wait for their passengers. Some just took the whole thing in stride: a simple stroll along a wide street. Or even a chance to run a hoop along a road which was quite free of motion. Others enjoyed sharing a picnic with friends, while some sat on a bench to simply listen with open ears and resting eyes. Those days must have been wonderful back then. I’m happy there are still bandstands and talented musicians for us to enjoy today. - PL
