This was done as homage to life just before my wife and I were married. The scene was right outside of our apartment. I was a roofer back then and was able to work on artwork at night and on the weekends. This was a good representation of what it was like to focus on one thing...for months.
Every time I see that drawing, it’s like reliving that period in time, and I’m just as happy with it now as I was back then. It’s based on many photos that I took while sitting on the ground a few yards away from one robin. Thankfully, he/she turned several times and offered me a chance to make a better composition by showing two robins. It was very cold that morning, and I showed the bitterness in the leaves, the puffed out chest of the robins and the bleak background. - RDJ
