The concept of this image came together for me while in Cheyenne WY at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. When I saw Elizabeth and William, the children of artist Wayne Blaize and his wife, Ellen, I knew I wanted to paint them. As we were talking, rodeo clown/bullfighter Bob Romer, whose nickname is Bulldancer, came over, and the combination was irresistible to me. I wanted to show the tenderness, compassion and goodheartedness of this tough, courageous and rugged bullfighter. He knows very well that this is a big moment for the little boy. He takes his hand to show him everything is OK. - JD
