Mountain gorillas live high in the Virunga region of Rwanda, Zaire and Uganda. I photographed this gentle giant from Group 9 in Rwanda, near Karisoke where Dian Fossey (Gorillas in the Mist) lived and worked.
Following the bloodletting of 1994, much gorilla habitat was compromised by refugees fleeing to and through the Virungas. - AB
