One evening in Amboseli Park in Kenya, on our way back to camp, we saw in the setting sun a big herd of wildebeests drawing together for the night. I was impressed by the mellowness of the mood and by the light and color - a kind of liquid gold over everything just before the sun dropped below the horizon. When I was doing the painting, I experimented with different sizes and places for the sun; finally I put it just off the classic dynamic point of the rectangle of the painting. - RB
This early print was published in England by the Tryon Gallery in an edition of 500. Many of the edition were destroyed during shipment to the United States making this an especially rare find.
