The spectacular peacock is still holding its own in the wild. I have shown this bird cautiously stepping along an overgrown path under a banyan tree. These banyans are a kind of strangler fig that overwhelms other trees and ancient abandoned buildings. India abounds with the ruins of Hindu forts and temples, some of which were destroyed during the various Mogul invasions. One aspect of India that I find endlessly fascinating is the blend of ancient culture and vibrant living nature. - RB
