I have painted many bald eagles, and I hope to paint many more. I like the simple and conservative color combinations. The plain white head gives me the chance to show the form and modeling in the feathers. From front to back, the feathers are modulated in shape and size, from rounded to pointed and from small to large. But I especially appreciate the facial expression of eagles. I like the look of all predators from lions to kestrels. As far as I know, there is no scientific explanation for the fact that they all look fierce and slightly angry. I am sure that they are sometimes happy or bored or frightened, but they always have an alert, about-to-attack expression. - RB
