I certainly hope that those who follow my art will recognize elements of the good life as I have often tried to portray it when they see my newest work, Lakeside Hideaway. This tranquil lake, nestled in the shadows of a towering mountain with a cozy cabin snuggly lit for evening, is certainly my idea of life at its best - the perfect hideaway for heart and soul. - T. “In my Father’s house are many mansions…” – JOHN 14:2
In His intriguing account of the promise of Paradise, Jesus proclaimed that each of us will find a welcoming home amidst
its “many mansions.” In my new Mansions in Paradise series, I turn my artist’s eye away from the humble cottages of
village and town and toward more majestic dwellings. My goal in this series is to create mansions truly worthy of a
paradise, whether earthly or heavenly.
My vision of Paradise includes the idyllic, tranquil landscapes that I like to think of as “heaven on earth.” What could be
more sublime than a serene lake reflecting the majesty of the heavens in its mirror-like surface? The gardens of Paradise
are lavish with flowers; the weather, surely, is what we like to think of as “a perfect Spring day.” In my Paradise, radiant
sunsets last for hours.
At once majestic and comfortably human in scale, Lakeside Manor, first in my new series, nestles along the shore of
this cobalt blue lake. Here is a grand mansion complete with cozy nooks where you might comfortably settle in for a
warming cup of tea or a long evening’s conversation. A weathered old stone bridge invites visitors to stroll the verdant
grounds, while the brook at the left provides a tranquil background murmur sure to make the spirit soar. T.K. |

Lamplight Bridge, the fifth stop along our imaginary Brooke Windermer, is enlivened by the vibrant glitter of gas lamps. The ancient stone span, crowned by lampposts, links neighbors who dwell on either side of the stream, and enhances the cozy hospitality of English country living. - T. K. |

Quaint English cottages running along a footpath, a lively stream spanned by an ornate Victorian bridge, sunlight breaking through clouds. It seems too perfect to be real; and yet, I painted Lamplight Lane almost completely on location, at a charming little village in the English Cotswolds that looked very much like this. - T. K. |

We've followed the delightful Brooke Windermer as it wanders past some of the humble pleasures of the English countryside - the cozy cottages, quaint lampposts, stone bridges, country churches, and charming inns that give this historic (and imaginary) region its special savor. In Lamplight Manor, sixth in my Lamplight Lane series, the brooke quite unexpectedly takes us to a rustic treasure hidden away in England's quaint Cotswolds - a manor house so magnificent that it stands as a proud proclamation of our instinct for elegance. We tie our skiff to the landing and climb the stone staircase to marvel at the wonders that await. How I would enjoy a private tour of house and grounds: the sweeping spiral staircases, the luxurious tapestries on the walls, the libraries with their shelves full of first editions, and rich, leather-upholstered armchairs. The passage I've quoted from the Gospel of John reminds us that tasteful opulence has its place in the house of our Lord; in my imagination, a mansion like this one provides a preview of the glories of heaven. Indeed, a Celtic cross adorns the massive chimney, while a sheltered old gazebo provides a tranquil retreat for worship. Here we can anticipate the delights that await the children of God. - T. K. |

To those who observe with a knowing eye and an understanding heart, the natural world is rich with allegories of profound spiritual truths. A Light in the Storm is a visual analogy of Jesus' proclamation: "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12)." - T. K. |

Storms must end. The great billowing thunderheads that blot out the sun for a time lose their fury and subside. God's glorious light streams through gaps in the clouds in brilliant beams. That moment, when peace returns to land, sea, and sky is a wonderful affirmation. When storms batter the land and whip the sea to a frenzy, their power seems irresistible. But as light breaks through to illuminate the land and calm the sea, we realize that the power of God's peace is truly beyond measure. These heavenly lights literally take my breath away. - T. K. |

| Rarely do I narrow my focus to still life, in essence bringing the glory of nature indoors. My challenge in Lilac Bouquet is to convey the sensual experience of the garden in my portrayal of this lavish bouquet. I want my viewers to delight at the delicate contrast of mauves and purples, to sense the rich perfume of lilacs wafting on the breeze, to imagine the buzz of bees hovering about the flowers.
Lilac Bouquet extends my celebration of this regal and fragrant shrub; it is, in effect, a companion to Lilac Gazebo.
