The soldier is alone ... as he is never alone in battle.
The weight of all he has seen and done, of the pain he has borne and the trials he has overcome bear down on his broad shoulders. The soldier's personal war is over: he is Heading Home. - T. K. |

We can almost hear the clanging bells as a cable car makes its way ponderously up the street while colorful vehicles dodge to and fro on the congested pavement. At the far left the towers of a Cathedral lend a timeless presence while in the distance the Coit Towers and the picturesque monoliths of the bridge stand guard over the glistening bay. I even posed myself astride my vintage Harley Davidson motorcycle making my way up the steep incline of the boulevard! - T. K. |

I often seek out a quiet place to meditate and pray; a special retreat like Hidden Arbor. This marvelous waterfall, with its myriad rivulets and streams and climbing flowers on a romantic arbor, is a little touch of heaven. - T. K. |

If you and I were to walk together along the old Plantation Road north of New Orleans, I could take you to the very spot that inspired The Hidden Gazebo. Perhaps the stairs which lead to the hidden gazebo will carry us to a quiet place of prayer and inspiration. - T. K. |

A Holiday Gathering is certainly near and dear to me, and I hope its portrayal of a congenial gathering of family and friends will be near and dear to you as well. Of all the holiday rituals, the one I prize most is the coming together of loved ones in shared celebration. Even if our family circle is small, the Christmas season can become a benchmark of friendship, a time when we pause to savor traditions of comfort and joy. - T. K. |

Hollyhock House is a real hideaway along the picturesque Pacific coast. The rich, honey-colored stone is an effect of wind and weather on rock; I could not hope to improve on it. The splendid, dignified hollyhocks, that rise as proud and straight sentinels at the entrance to the garden, are my imaginative addition to the scene. The special radiance of morning light is an expression of God's artistry and nature, but I like to think the golden morning light is also from my own heart. - T. K. |

Home is Where the Heart Is II expresses those things I value most about family. The classic farm house offers comfort and intimacy, the flowering apple trees promise a rich harvest - and the pies, sauce, and cider that bind a family in fruitful labor. I like to think that these trees were planted long ago, by grandparents who may yet live in this gracious home. - T. K. |

Homestead House is the first painting in my Great American Mansions collection. With its stately Doric columns and imposing facade, this is the very essence of the plantation style.truly a grand mansion that would have delighted Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler. - T. K. |

My Hometown Memories collection fondly revisits my idyllic childhood and I have often found that the heart and emotions of the boy seem to blend with the mind and sensitiveness of the adult artist. As a maturing artist, I recognize deeper meaning within bridges, those ravine spanning passages we make in life: graduations, first love, marriage, the birth of a child. - T. K. |

This is the chapel where little girls dream of a romantic wedding with their Prince Charming and where old men remember walking their beautiful brides down the aisle. But a church is more than just a place for weddings: it is also the spiritual center of a village, providing the light that helps guide a community as it grows and prospers. Here in the church we commemorate the landmarks that fill our life. - T. K. |

I was so lucky to grow up in Placerville, in northern California, at a time when America's villages were still vibrant; when a real sense of community comforted the town children. I remember wandering our lanes on a Sunday evening, drawn as if by magnetic attraction toward the heart of the village. There the sound of the church bells heralded an evening worship and cars sputtered down the country roads filled with passengers who enjoyed the slowly passing scenery. - T. K. |

As we stroll down the tree-shaded lane, you'll notice the landmarks familiar to every hometown - neighborhood houses, people of the village, sidewalks, and even a pet or two. These are the places where families thrive, children grow up, and memories are made. - T. K. |

I think that in my Hometown Memories collection, I've established - at least to my own satisfaction - that you can go home again. Perhaps not with a boy's innocence and enthusiasm, but certainly with an adult's fond memories and deep appreciation for the gifts of community, of belonging, of shared values and dreams that are the essence of the hometown experience. Hometown Morning is the sixth and final look at the hometown of my boyhood - and, I hope, at some of the things you remember most warmly about your hometown as well. In this series of works we have revisited my favorite places: town square, the quiet lanes and busy street corners, the country chapel, and the stone bridge. These were the stages on which the drama of my youth played out with all the joy and high spirits and occasional heartaches that a passionate young man brings to living. I was a newspaper delivery boy, so I knew the morning rhythms of my town, and how well I remember some of the characters who gave my hometown its character. They live on - in my memory, now in my art. My newspaper route took me into the heart of my hometown and introduced me to the infinite variety of human experience. Though Hometown Morning will be the last work in my Hometown Memories collection, I see it as a beginning, rather than an end. After all, I met my future wife Nanette on my paper route. And, for me, that was the beginning of all good things. - T. K. |

How well I remember riding the cable car on my first visit to San Francisco and glimpsing the magnificent panorama of the Bay. "Key West" has long attracted literary luminaries and world figures. Like many visitors, I was attracted by its small town charm and vividly colored tropical vistas.
I have hidden a number of world figures in my Key West print, most notable Ernest Hemingway, who stands in front of his beloved Sloppy Joe's Bar, where he held court during the last years of his life. I've included a number of vintage cars in my painting to suggest the nostalgic charm as evident today as it was in earlier decades in "Key West".
In the clear air and luminous sky of the Caribbean colors rise to vivid heights. I utilized a broad stroke technique along with much fine detail to capture the festive atmosphere of "Key West". Between ten and twenty layers of paint, featuring delicate glazine, create the opalescent hues of the Caribbean.
If you have fond memories of America's southernmost city, if you long for the tropics, or if you simply enjoy the dramatic charm of a bustling town, Key West could be a treasure in your home. - T. K.
