night is like another world, one that is not exactly manmade and with a life of its own.

Built in 1716,
this lighthouse in Boston Harbor was the earliest one built in the New
World and the first erected in the United States. Originally, candles and
whale oil provided the illumination that guided sailors into the safety of
this harbor, signaling their journey's end. Severely damaged by the
British during the American revolution, this lighthouse was virtually
rebuilt from the ground up in 1783. The restoration included a
fourteen-foot addition, raising the tower 89 feet above the ground. - P.

I
had been in the Tetons for about a week. I was by this wonderful lake on a
day when the weather was perfect. All at once, just ahead of me, a
brilliant light came from behind the clouds. It was quite an emotional
feeling to see the sun suddenly burst from above and shine on the water,
right in front of me. I tried to capture this moving moment as best I
could in Splendor of the Tetons. - P. E. |

We were hiking
in the woods and came across a vista which seemed to go on forever.
It is unusual to be able to see so far, for usually, the trees bunch
together to hide the distance. Perhaps it was the stream that gave
one the ability to see into what one might call future dreams. I do
remember that wonderful feeling of peace that it gave me - I hope some of
the feelings I had that day in springtime, long ago, comes across to you.

Looking down onto Times Square, you see a kind of microcosm of the whole city. The lights
