BEV DOOLITTLE - BOOKS

Presenting Bev Doolittle's The Earth Is My Mother Collector's Edition, a much-anticipated creation that has been years in the making. This richly imaginative print and book combination—available exclusively through Greenwich Workshop dealers—is being offered in advance of the book's trade publication in spring 2000. The limited edition fine art print is the only way collectors will be able to enjoy this namesake image. In fact, it does not even appear as a "whole" in the book.
Order this limited-edition print and receive a signed collector's edition copy of the book "The Earth is My Mother" by Bev Doolittle.  The book contains a folded insert (approximately 9.5" x 11") with the 16 images printed out of order.  These can be cut out and arranged to reveal The Earth is My Mother.  Each special edition hardcover book also includes gold stamping, 16 color illustrations, and 55 pencil drawings.  The book is 7.75" x 10" and 176 pages.

The Forest Has Eyes is a picture book for children, featuring twelve of Bev Doolittle's most popular camouflage and Native American animal-spirit paintings. The text by Elise Maclay invites readers to see the natural world and its animals with the native American's eyes, and to create their own stories while looking at the pictures. Songs, legends and questions geared toward the younger child accompany Doolittle's paintings about "seeing with our native peoples' eyes. "Native Americans have magic eyes. They see the spirits of animals and trees. They see that all creatures are related, owl and bear, toad and eagle, trout and elk. All have gifts. All are needed."  In The Forest Has Eyes, we can still see the world in this way if we open our hearts and eyes.

I wanted to complete the Sacred Circle with this image because the wolf is the only animal which remains unseen in the Sacred Circle print and the wolf track is symbolic of all that is hidden in nature. My thought was to render this wolf track with great detail, as if it had just been made in fresh snow. This is a very thin layer of snow and the wolf track exposes the dark gravel, hints of vegetation, pine needles and all that helps to define the hidden wolf spirit image of the wolf that made the track. Wolf and grizzly tracks have always been magic to me. They seem to retain a spirit-like essence of the animal that made them. My idea was to bring that special feeling to life. BD
