With his liberal use of color, as well as dynamic lines, Davis' "Resplendent Queen" is complex in its composition. Expanding his color scheme, Davis integrates magenta, sapphire, emerald, amber and amethyst along with his trademark glowing white petals. The epiphyllum in Greek means "upon the leaf" and the flowers appear to bloom directly on the leaves. In their natural habitat, epiphyllums can be found in the forks of trees or in rock crevices, making them a very resilient flower. Here, Davis has focused on its delicate nature, as well as its elaborate form. |
