AMY BRACKENBURY - BIOGRAPHY

Amy Brackenbury, artist

Raised on the family ranch in the northern Colorado foothills, Amy Brackenbury resides with her husband, Lars Larson, and their children on a ranch which is part of the old family spread in Livermore, Colorado. This is the lifestyle she loves - in tune with the out-of-doors, the surrounding wildlife and domestic animals. "Living on the ranch gives me an opportunity to work from live subjects," she says. "Painting wildlife lets me do what I like to do best - observing and being in close association with the animals I love.  We feel privileged to live where we do because of the great abundance and variety of wildlife in our area."

Amy studied art and painting at Colorado State University. She admires oriental art - she likes its feeling for composition, negative space and simplicity. Realism is the style which she chooses to depict the animal life she portrays, focusing her attention on the main subject.

Acrylic on canvas is the medium Amy uses for most of her serious paintings, but for fun she may use oils and stray to unrelated abstract subjects.  She has exhibited in many shows and prefers to paint as July 18, 2008 rom 14" x 16" to triptych murals as large as 40" x 90"

Mill Pond Press has published her acrylic portraits of domestic animals since 1983.  Her work is featured in the book, The Best of Wildlife Art (North Light Books 1997).
