Marty Bell, the daughter of Swedish parents, is a native Californian. She is the devoted wife of Steve Bell, the loving mother of three sons and a proud grandmother. Her love of God, family and life is felt in her exquisitely detailed works of art.
Early in life, Marty discovered love for art. In high school, she began developing her skills in the arts. Unfortunately her teachers did not recognize her God-given talents. In Marty's words, "Our teachers would ask us to draw still lifes, like a broken tricycle or a baseball bat. These have their place, but who would want them on their wall forever?" Marty continues, "'I would work with that for a while and then I would start playing on my own with the paints. This is where I would get into trouble."
After completing high school, Marty attended college studying interior and fashion design. Unfortunately for the art world, Marty's art work had to wait; she had fallen in love with her husband to be, Steve. They were married in 1950.
Next, Marty enrolled in a group oil painting class and found a new beginning for her artistic expression. Fortunately, her teacher was secure in her own talent and was able to teach the use of the medium while encouraging individual creativity. Marty knew the direction she wanted to go. When this teacher moved away, after only a few months, Marty sought further aid for the style of paintings she wanted to produce. The next two teachers, however, proved to be of little help. In these two classes, other students saw her unique style and asked for her help. One year after Marty's new start in oil painting, she opened her own art school and began teaching classes for those fellow students who had asked, "Please take us with you."
In 1974, Marty painted a few "English scenes which promptly sold. From that point on, her life and that of her family would never be the same. Many of the English paintings were selling before she could complete them. After eleven years of teaching and self-development, with the strong encouragement of her husband/manager, Marty closed her at school to produce the quality and quantity of paintings she desired.
In 1980, after painting English scene from photographs supplied by others, Steve and Marty took their first photo trip to England. They spent a month driving through the country and returned with photographs of hundreds of cottages, villages, and country scenes. They have made numerous trips to England since then and have added many additional photographs to enhance her visual memory. |
